Contemporary Architecture Practice was founded in 1999 and is located on Spring Street in SoHo, New York City. SoHo, a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, long noted for its Design and Artistic Culture, its wealth of artists’ loft and art galleries, and more recently for the wide variety of stores and shops, from trendy boutiques to outlets of upscale national and international chain stores, provides a creative milieu for the firm.

Ali Rahim is an architect and founding Director of Contemporary Architecture Practice (CAP). Rahim has twenty five years of architectural design and management experience in Boston and New York City. Ali Rahim holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from Columbia University, where he won the Honor Award for Excellence in Design and the Kinney Travelling Fellowship. Active in education, Rahim is a Professor of Design at the University of Pennsylvania and has previously served as the Zaha Hadid Studio Visiting Design Professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Louis I Kahn Visiting Architecture Design Professor at Yale University, and a Visiting Architecture Design Professor at Harvard University. Ali Rahim has authored and co-edited books on contemporary design including Catalytic Formations (2011) in Chinese with additional projects and texts, Turbulence (2011), Elegance (2007) with Hina Jamelle, Catalytic Formations: Architecture and Digital Design (2006) in its second edition, Contemporary Techniques in Architecture (2002) and Contemporary Processes in Architecture (2000).

Hina Jamelle is an architect and Director at Contemporary Architecture Practice. Jamelle has over fifteen years of architecture design experience in Philadelphia and New York City, including project architecture and management experience on large-scale institutional buildings. Prior to joining Contemporary Architecture Practice in 2003, Hina Jamelle served as Client Partner at media consulting firm Razorfish in New York City. Jamelle holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Michigan, where she won the University wide Martin Luther King Leadership Award. Active in education, Hina Jamelle teaches graduate design studios at the University of Pennsylvania. She is involved in an ongoing partnership with DuPont and Corian to develop new materials for architectural construction. Her books include a forthcoming publication titled Migrating Architectural and Structural Formations (2013) and Elegance (2007) with Ali Rahim
